For a long time, boric alcohol or boric acid solution was instilled into the ears to eliminate inflammation. This is mentioned in old books on medicine. Nowadays boric acid is used together with antibacterial drugs and physiotherapeutic procedures. In this case, you need to act very carefully, carefully following all instructions and precautions.
Ear pain is a common phenomenon for people of any age, but more often babies suffer from it. This is due to the incomplete formation of the auditory tube in infants, which is much wider and shorter, which contributes to the penetration of infection. To eliminate the disease, it is necessary to use the safest methods, so the use of boric alcohol will not work. This medicine should only be used by adult patients.
Boric acid has almost unique properties. It is odorless, tasteless, does not leave marks on objects. However, at the end of the 80s of the last century, doctors banned the use of this medicine in order to eliminate ailments in children and pregnant women. The fact is that boric acid is toxic to them. Other categories of patients should use this drug with great caution. Among the positive properties: anti-inflammatory and warming effect, as well as the ability to dry out the inflamed areas of the mucous membranes. Boric alcohol not only relieves swelling from inflammation, but also has an antiseptic effect. Thanks to this, with the help of boric alcohol, it is possible to fight against fungal diseases.
Acid diluted in 70% alcohol is used. When eliminating ailments of the auditory system, a three percent solution of this substance is used. For treatment, you need to buy ready-made boric alcohol in a pharmacy, and not make the drug yourself. Moreover, the medicine is relatively inexpensive. Boric alcohol is not suitable for all ailments of the hearing aid, therefore, before starting treatment, you should consult with an otolaryngologist.
Most patients are interested in whether it is necessary to instill boric alcohol or acid solution only in the ear that hurts. To this, doctors unequivocally answer: it is definitely worth dripping the medicine into both ears. The auditory system is one and if one ear is inflamed, then the inflammation can quickly go to the other, as well as to bilateral otitis media, sinusitis, rhinitis, inflammation in the tonsils and throat. So for prophylaxis it is worth instilling in both ears at once, even if the second one does not bother you yet.
Burying. This method is used most often for otitis media. This is done after pre-treatment, which allows the drug to better affect the ear canal. Cleaning is carried out with hydrogen peroxide. A few drops are instilled first into one, then into the other ear. After each instillation, you should lie down for a while with a cotton swab in your ear. Boric alcohol should be heated, but not until hot. Next, you need to drop 3 drops using a pipette. After that, you need to lie down for 10-15 minutes on the opposite side of the ear into which the medicine was dropped. To prevent the alcohol from leaking out, you should put a cotton swab in your ear, and then repeat the same manipulation with the other ear.
Boric alcohol rinsing. Unlike instillation, this method involves the use of an even weaker solution (2%). In addition, the alcohol is washed out of the ears, and does not remain, as when instilled. You will need a large syringe and warm water. After one ear has been dripped, you need to wait a little and wash the alcohol with warm water. Carry out the same manipulation with the other ear in a few minutes. The procedure must be trusted only by a specialist, otherwise you can harm the patient by wrong actions.
Laying turunda. This method assumes that a cotton wool flagellum dipped in boric alcohol will be inserted into the ear. In this case, do not lay it too far into the ear canal, otherwise you can harm the membrane. The time of treatment is determined by the doctor, and the number of procedures should not exceed seven times.
Diseases for which boric alcohol can be used are often infectious and colds. Chief among them is otitis media. It is important to bring the therapy to the end so that the disease does not become chronic. Some ear diseases are caused by allergic reactions, decreased immunity. Often, doctors advise the use of boric alcohol for the treatment of otitis media of all types and complexity, as well as inflammatory processes in the auricles, otomycosis. The latter ailment is characterized by the appearance of a fungal infection in the ear canals. Here boric acid will be needed very well as an auxiliary agent.
When using boric alcohol, side effects are possible. Among them: itching in the ear canals, nausea, dizziness, headaches and even clouding of consciousness, impaired coordination, diarrhea. If adverse reactions occur, treatment should be stopped immediately. If the patient continues treatment with boric alcohol, despite the fact that there are side effects, they can only get worse. An already weakened organism will not fight a new "trouble". Immunity will decrease and it will turn out that a person will do great harm to himself.
There are also contraindications to treatment with this drug. Scientists have shown that boric acid, like its alcoholic solution, is able to pass through mucous membranes into the bloodstream. If the kidneys do not work as they should and do not excrete the remnants of this substance, its accumulation can lead to tragic consequences. That is why doctors do not recommend the use of boric alcohol for diseases of babies, women in position and people with kidney diseases. You should not allow the accumulation of this medication in the bodies of adults.
