During normal breathing, the blood is enriched with oxygen, and when smoking, part of the oxygen is replaced by carbon monoxide, which removes a large percentage of hemoglobin from the breathing process. Therefore, when smoking, oxygen starvation occurs in all tissues of the body. This can be clearly seen if you look at the skin of a heavy smoker, which has a bluish tint from a constant lack of oxygen.

The neurons of the brain are most sensitive to a lack of oxygen, therefore, smokers' intellectual abilities decrease, this is especially noticeable in the elderly - smokers over 60 years old lose their intellectual abilities 5 times faster than their non-smokers of the same age.

The composition of tobacco smoke contains an extremely dangerous poison - hydrocyanic acid. Despite the fact that its dose in a cigarette is small, it still inflicts a terrible blow on the human nervous system.

But the main negative effect of smoking is nicotine. It is a very toxic poison, a lethal dose of which is contained in just one pack of cigarettes. That is, the average smoker uses a lethal dose of nicotine every day and does not die only due to the fact that nicotine is quickly excreted by the kidneys and does not have time to accumulate in the body. Once in the body, nicotine tones up the nervous system in the first minutes, creating an illusion of vigor and concentration in a person after smoking, but soon all systems are suppressed, and a new dose of nicotine is required to feel good. Thus, nicotine addiction arises.
