Drinking enough water every day is beneficial to your health and improves your appearance. Accustomed to quenching their thirst with tea, juices or sodas, people often have difficulty trying to train themselves to drink more water per day. However, the recommended two liters of pure water for daily use is not as much as it seems. Patience and a few simple tricks will help you learn to drink more.
At home and in the office
There should always be clean water at home - if you do not buy bottled water, get a filter jug and constantly refill it, remembering to change the cartridges in time. Take a bottle of water of a convenient volume with you to work or school - the bottle should be empty by your return home. Take a few sips every time you have to wait for something - at a bus stop, in line at an ATM, or at a hairdresser.
Drink a glass of water immediately upon waking up, thirty minutes before each meal, after each visit to the toilet. Another way is to drink at each "transition point" - before leaving the house, when starting work, changing the type of activity (for example, you finished writing a report and moved on to current tasks) or before leaving the office. Thus, it will be easy for you to collect the required two liters per day.
Hang a chart of water consumption on the refrigerator, ticking off each glass you drink.
Put water on your workbench and sip constantly as you work. As you pass the office cooler, stop and have a glass. Did a colleague give you a cookie? Wash it down not with tea, but with water!
If a good habit is still not being developed, think about it, maybe you should reconsider your motivation. Write down all the reasons why you want to increase your water intake - they will be a great incentive if you notice that you drink less again.
If you do not like the fresh taste of pure water, make it brighter and more pleasant by adding mashed mint leaves, lemon juice, slices of lime or lemon to taste. If you feel like drinking fruit juice, do not deny yourself the pleasure, but dilute the juice with half of water.
Be sure to drink a glass of water with every cup of coffee or strong tea you drink - caffeine removes fluid from the body, the loss of which must be replenished immediately.
Drink water through a straw - this will take big sips and the glass will empty faster.
There are special free smartphone apps to help you control your fluid intake. The app will calculate the amount of water you need and remind you that it's time to drink the next portion. You can also set a custom reminder on your phone to beep every hour to prompt you to go to the kitchen or cooler.
Drinking can be tied to an activity that you perform on a daily basis. For example, start drinking a glass of water every time you go for a walk with your dog, and another glass after the walk.
