You have become a mother and breastfeeding is a great pleasure for you and your baby. He is saturated and receives the necessary vitamins and minerals. And you taste the joys of motherhood, warming the crumbs of your heart with warmth. But more and more milk comes. And one day the chest overflows, it becomes hard. Unbearable pain appears. The temperature is rising. What's happening? In simple terms, inflammation of the mammary gland. But this problem can be prevented.
What caused the inflammation?
1. Untimely and incorrect pumping. How and when to do it right? The more you express, the more milk comes in. This happens because the body is sensitive to the needs of the baby and gives the installation: you have drunk so much, work out a new portion. The last request of the crumbs defined a new norm.
So how much should you pump? Exactly so much and exactly then to remove the "stone state" of the breast. You should not squeeze it out to the last drop - this way the problem will only double, because even more milk will come. Therefore, it is enough to relieve the state of tension, stretching.
2. Tight underwear. The hormonal background is changing our body at an amazing rate. We are losing weight, then gaining weight, then losing weight again. And at the same time, not every nursing mother can break out to the store so soon and update her wardrobe. Therefore, the bra, which yesterday perfectly accentuated and kept its shape, today it has transferred this shape. In the squeezed places, milk stagnation occurs, which leads to a problem.
3. Feeding the baby in the same position. Over and over again, you squeeze the breast, and this leads to stagnation of milk. It is important to remember to alternate right and left when feeding.
4. Indelicate pumping and lack of proper hygiene. Do your fingers become iron brush on your chest? Do you wash your breasts regularly before each feed? An infection that gets through cracks and wounds with indelicate expression will provoke inflammation.
5. Hypothermia. Drafts, frosts and winds are weather factors that can reduce immunity. Keep yourself warm by walking in good weather.
What else is important to consider! Expressing is best after or during showering, when the milk ducts dilate and the milk flows freely.
Pay attention to the position of your fingers when expressing. Use your thumb and forefinger to make the letter "C". Now place this "c" with the pads of your fingers at the edges of the nipple and gently squeeze, then scroll a little around and cover the other milk channels. Using the other palm, gently pushing, move the milk from the edges to the center.
Avoid stress and chronic sleep deprivation, which can lead to milk loss altogether. Try to keep your mindset positive, no matter what annoying factors surround you. Take time to rest. Sleep in between when your baby sleeps. Wave your hand at all sorts of comments, for example, about what you have not cleaned. It is much more important to keep breastfeeding than to transfer things from place to place.
If the problem has already made itself felt
Don't try to force it. Rough pumping, attempts to squeeze out at least a drop of milk at any cost will only aggravate the problem. Try to calm down. Take a shower and do it gently. After the first time, lumps may remain. But over time, they will also disperse.
If you have a significant fever, take antipyretic medications, but be careful to see if they are compatible with breastfeeding.
If you cannot solve the problem on your own, contact your gynecologist or surgeon as soon as possible. You will be shown how to properly straighten your breasts. Perhaps they will be sent for physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics will be prescribed. In any case, specialists will select the treatment that will maximize the preservation of breastfeeding.Therefore, you should not be afraid to go to the hospital if you feel that you cannot cope on your own.
