"Tetracycline" is an antibiotic. The wide spectrum of action of this drug allows it to be used to treat many diseases. "Tetracycline" is used internally - in the form of tablets, syrup and suspension, externally - in the form of an ointment, as well as in the form of injections.

The drug is used to treat diseases of an infectious and inflammatory genesis caused by organisms sensitive to "Tetracycline". In particular, the drug is used for bronchitis, pneumonia, pleural empyema, angina. Also "Tetracycline" is prescribed for the treatment of pyelonephritis, cholecystitis, endometritis, endocarditis, intestinal infections, prostatitis, some sexually transmitted diseases, purulent infections and a number of eye diseases.

Inside "Tetracycline" should be taken every 6 hours. A single dosage of the drug in the form of tablets for adults is 250 mg, if necessary, it can be increased to 500 mg. The pediatric dosage is 25 mg / kg of the child's weight. Depot tablets are drunk one at a time at intervals of 12 hours on the first day of therapy, then - 1 tablet per day. The dosage of the drug in children's and adult depot tablets is different and is 0, 375 g and 0, 12 g, respectively.

Suspension "Tetracycline" is used to treat children. The daily dosage - 5-6 drops / kg of body weight - is divided into 4 doses with an interval of 6 hours. Syrup "Tetracycline" is also taken with the same frequency. The daily dosage for adults is 17 ml (1-2 g of granules). Children are given the drug at the rate of 20-30 mg granules / kg of body weight. To prepare the syrup, pour 40 ml (4 measuring spoons) of water into the bottle and shake.

Ointment "Tetracycline" is applied externally with a frequency of 3-5 times a day. The product should be applied in a thin layer. If necessary, a light bandage can be applied over the ointment. Eye ointment should be applied behind the eyelid 2-4 times a day. The duration of therapy depends on the disease.

Tetracycline injections are carried out intravenously and intramuscularly. The drug is used 2-4 times a day. The maximum daily dosage for intravenous use for adults is 2 g, for children - 10-20 mg / kg. The drug is diluted in 5% glucose solution or saline, reaching a concentration of 1%, and injected slowly, drip.

With i / m application, 0.1 g of "Tetracycline" is diluted in 2.5-5 ml of novocaine solution. Single dosage for adults - 0.05-0.1 g, children - 0.05-0.08 g. Injections are made in the outer upper quadrant of the buttocks 2-3 times a day for a course of 5-7 days. Further, treatment with tablets "Tetracycline" is prescribed.


The drug "Tetracycline" in any form is contraindicated in liver failure, mycoses, leukopenia, intolerance to the components of the drug. "Tetracycline" should not be taken by nursing and pregnant women, as well as children under 8 years of age. The drug should not be consumed concurrently with dairy products, as this makes it difficult to assimilate. During the period of therapy, it is recommended to take vitamins B and K.

Therapy with "Tetracycline" can cause side effects in the form of abdominal pain, stool disorders, vomiting, headache, allergic and dermatological reactions. Changes in the parameters of the liver and hematopoietic system are possible. There may also be painful sensations at the injection site.
