Osteochondrosis refers to diseases associated with the condition of the intervertebral discs and cartilage. If not, the mobility of the spine decreases, painful sensations and discomfort appear.

Causes of osteochondrosis

Violation of the condition of the intervertebral discs and cartilage tissue can appear at any age. Factors of increased risk are weak ligamentous apparatus, congenital cartilage pathology, defects of the spinal column. Internal and external factors increase the risk of osteochondrosis in humans.

Secondary osteochondrosis is a consequence of:

- incorrect distribution of loads on the spine;

- posture disorders;

- curvature of the spine;

- injuries of the musculoskeletal system;

- sedentary lifestyle;

- excess weight;

- diseases of the connective and cartilaginous tissue;

- metabolic disorders;

- the presence of bad habits.

The main symptoms of the disease

At the first signs of the disease, treatment should be started, since the disease gradually affects the rest of the spine and the musculoskeletal system as a whole. Discomfort begins to appear depending on the area of the lesion. Distinguish between cervical, lumbar, thoracic osteochondrosis, since in these places the spine is more mobile and overstrained.

In the preclinical stage, the disease may be asymptomatic. But when studying X-rays, changes in the structure of cartilage tissue and intervertebral discs are noticeable. As a rule, during this period, a person quickly gets tired, experiences moderate discomfort in the spine or neck.

The stage of change in the nucleus pulposus is characterized by the appearance of painful sensations, which occurs due to the compaction of the disc, a decrease in its height and pressure on the nerve endings. Movement is often limited when turning and bending the back.

At the stage of destruction of the annulus fibrosus, the interdiscal fluid dries up, cracks and ruptures form. This stage of the disease is accompanied by extensive pain throughout the back, dizziness, nausea, "lumbago" in a specific part of the spine, decreased sensitivity of the arms and legs.

With cervical osteochondrosis, painful sensations and numbness of the hands and fingers may appear.

With the defeat of the thoracic region, symptoms characteristic of angina pectoris often occur. It is caused by pinched nerves in that part of the body.

The last stage - replacement of the disc with scar tissue - leads to improper fusion of the vertebrae with each other. As a result, in this place the spine loses its mobility and stops bending. As a rule, the painful sensations become less pronounced.

To effectively eliminate the problem, it is necessary to start treatment at the first signs, until there are serious changes in the structure of the spine. The destroyed intervertebral cartilage is not able to recover on its own.
