The metabolic rate is influenced by gender, body weight and age of a person, as well as genetic predisposition and lifestyle. Recent studies have shown that aerobic exercise has practically no effect on the metabolic rate; strength exercises in this case will give the best result.

Most dietitians urge you to eat very small meals often, based on the fact that the metabolism accelerates after each meal. There is no scientific confirmation of this theory, so it is still better to eat at intervals of three to four hours. Many people eat certain foods, hoping that they will help speed up the metabolism. Indeed, using hot peppers, celery, pineapple and grapefruit, you can slightly expand the vessels and speed up the metabolism, but this will be insignificant and will not allow you to lose even a few grams, not to mention kilograms.

There are some medications that can affect the rate at which chemical reactions occur, such as amphetamines, thyroid medication, and steroid hormones. They really have a stimulating effect and stimulate the metabolism, but very quickly become addictive and the result is short-lived. Anabolics (steroid hormones) are commonly used to increase fat mass, which is then converted into muscle mass during exercise. But without the proper load, using steroids, you can only earn obesity. From the foregoing, we can conclude that it is possible to influence the metabolism, but only with a properly composed diet, with a lot of fiber and protein, regular physical activity, adherence to sleep and wakefulness.
