Because of this, the blood supply to the vertebral artery, located on the opposite side of the pillow, is disrupted. That is, the sleeping person will suffer from the blood supply on the left side if he lies on the right side, and vice versa.

When watching TV, lying on our backs, we arrange ourselves in such a way that everything can be seen. In this case, the head is usually raised. It happens that in this position a person falls asleep, and it turns out to be worse than in the first case. In this variant, the chin is brought to the chest, which contributes to the violation of blood circulation in both vertebral arteries. You can mark two points of overlap of blood supply on each side.

Such violations are most critical for the elderly, who, having lived their whole lives, have developed a bunch of sores and have largely deteriorated their blood vessels. According to statistics from the World Health Organization, most strokes happen in the morning. So in this case, an elderly person who has fallen asleep in front of the TV and suffered from oxygen starvation all night can wake up with paralysis in the morning.

For young people, such a development is unlikely. The maximum that threatens them is morning dizziness or headache. In order to avoid such troubles, you must provide yourself with everything you need for physiological sleep. First of all, this applies to the pillow. The traditional square won't work. It is not the thickness that plays a big role, but the shape.

The safety pillow should be rectangular. This is necessary so that only the head and neck fit on its surface, and the shoulder is outside of it. This allows the cervical spine to remain straight and not block the vessels that supply the brain.

Orthopedic pillows made of dense material are sold for physiological sleep. There are two tubercles on its surface: a large and a small one. The small tubercle helps the cervical spine to stay straight when the person lies on their back, and the large one performs the same function in the lateral position.

Scientists from Japan went a little further. They invented special glasses that allow you not to raise your head when reading a book or watching TV, thereby keeping blood flow through the vertebral arteries free.
