The drug "Duphaston" is a progestogen that increases the level of the hormone progesterone in the body, which is necessary for the onset of pregnancy. This synthetic substitute is prescribed for women with low progesterone levels.
The main component of "Duphaston" is dydrogesterone, the molecular structure and chemical properties of which are as close as possible to those of progesterone. However, unlike androgenic synthetic progestogens, dydrogesterone is not derived from testosterone. In this regard, it is well tolerated by the woman's body and has minimal side effects without disturbing the metabolism.
The main goal of "Duphaston" is to compensate for luteal insufficiency, which allows you to prepare the female body for pregnancy. After correcting the level of progesterone with a synthetic substitute, optimal conditions for conceiving a child appear in the body - however, the problem should be precisely in the low levels of progesterone. In the presence of an unrecoverable pathology affecting the production of this hormone, it is possible to take Dufaston, but only as a minimum measure that can be taken for the sake of a long-awaited pregnancy.
Before preparing for conception, the synthetic progesterone substitute "Duphaston" must be taken according to a certain scheme. So, its exact dosage is prescribed by the attending physician, based on the test results, but usually it is taken ten milligrams twice a day. Taking the drug should start in the second phase of the menstrual cycle, only after the end of ovulation before the start of a new cycle.
The duration of taking the drug also has its own specific conditions. To equalize the level of progesterone to the norm that will allow a woman to become pregnant, "Duphaston" must be taken for six menstrual cycles (at least). In case of pregnancy, taking the drug should be continued, taking into account the basal temperature and taking "Duphaston" according to the scheme prescribed by the attending physician during the first months after conception. Termination of taking "Duphaston" during this period can lead to a drop in progesterone levels and premature termination of pregnancy.
