Balsam is a beautiful plant with large, bright flowers, widely used in floriculture. And few people know that forest balsam, despite the fact that it is a poisonous plant, has found its use in folk medicine.
Useful properties of balsam
Basically, balsam is used externally, since in its composition this plant contains alkaloids and tannins. Freshly squeezed balsam juice can relieve pain and disinfect a wound. For the treatment of open wounds, cuts, purulent abscesses and even hemorrhoidal cones, balsam broth is used. The tool is prepared as follows: a tablespoon of plant materials is poured with a glass of boiling water. A cotton swab is moistened in the broth, and a sore spot is treated with it.
When used internally, balsam has a miraculous effect on the urinary system. The active substances contained in the plant grind stones into sand and promote their removal. Also, balsam accelerates the release of fluid from the body.
To prepare a balsam product that can be consumed internally, a teaspoon of plant materials is poured with boiling water and insisted for twenty minutes. Take the remedy in a tablespoon no more than twice a day.
Since the plant is poisonous, a decoction of balsam should be taken under the supervision of a doctor.
In addition to using inward and outward, baths can be prepared with balsam. This remedy is used to treat rheumatism and gout.
Contraindications to the use of balsam
Balsam is not a safe herbal remedy, so it should be used with caution. This plant is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, children and adolescents under fourteen years of age. In people suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, balsam can irritate the mucous membranes. An overdose of this agent is also dangerous.

Balsam with large and bright colors of white, red, yellow or purple, growing on garden plots and window sills, does not serve as a medicine. This balsam variety is only a popular houseplant that does not require much maintenance when grown. As a medicine, forest balsam is used, which grows in the forest zone near rivers, streams or in ravines. This variety has a rather nondescript appearance, it is not grown in gardens, forest balsam or its seed cannot be bought in a store that sells indoor plants, but it can help in the fight against many serious diseases.
