"Motilium" is used as a peristalsis stimulant with an antiemetic effect. Its active ingredient domperidone is a dopamine receptor blocker and does not affect gastric secretion.


Indications for use of "Motilium"

"Motilium" increases the duration of contractions in the stomach, accelerates its release from the contents and increases the pressure in the esophagus. The drug is prescribed for various dyspeptic disorders associated with reflux and slow gastric emptying, for pain and a feeling of fullness in the epigastrium, for nausea, vomiting, bloating, belching and heartburn. "Motilium" is also used for nausea and vomiting caused by taking certain drugs in Parkinson's disease, as well as for nausea and vomiting caused by infections, diseases of internal organs.

"Motilium" is prescribed for babies with regurgitation syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux and other disorders of gastric motility.

Instructions for the use of "Motilium"

"Motilium" in tablets and suspensions is prescribed for babies, lingual tablets are available for adults and children (over 5 years old). The lingual tablet dissolves instantly in the mouth, you do not need to swallow it and drink it with water. In chronic dyspeptic conditions "Motilium" is prescribed three times a day before meals, 10 mg each 15-30 minutes before meals. You can take "Motilium" and before bedtime, if necessary. The maximum dose of the drug is 80 mg / day. The suspension is given to children under five years of age at the rate of 2.5 ml per 10 kg of body weight. For children aged 1 year and older, the dosage can be doubled, but not exceeding 80 mg per day.

In case of vomiting and nausea, "Motilium" is prescribed before meals and at night for adults and children (over 12 years old) three to four times a day, 20 mg each. Children aged 5-12 years are given 10 mg three to four times a day before meals and at night. The suspension is given three to four times a day, before meals, and also at night, based on the norm of 5 milliliters per 10 kilograms of body weight.

For people with hepatic insufficiency, Motilium is prescribed with caution. With renal failure, the intervals between taking the drug are lengthened.

Side effect of "Motilium"

Motilium can cause side effects from the endocrine, central nervous system, digestive system: gynecomastia, amenorrhea, extrapyramidal disorders in children, gastrointestinal disorders, spastic bowel contractions. An allergic reaction (rash, hives) may appear on the skin. Reception of "Motilium" is contraindicated in case of perforation or obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, with a pituitary tumor, gastrointestinal bleeding, with a high susceptibility of the body to domperidone, while taking ketoconazole tablets. During pregnancy, "Motilium" is prescribed if the benefits of the drug for the mother outweighs the risk for the unborn child. While taking Motilium, breastfeeding should be discontinued.
