The leaves are small, opposite, ovoid, whole, covered with glands with essential oils. Flowers are collected in heads. The wreaths are purple-red, sometimes white. The smell of the plant is fragrant. Thyme is a melliferous plant. Blooms from May to autumn.

It grows almost throughout the country on scanty soils on dry slopes, in plantings or steppes, on sandy soils, in dry pine forests, on the edges. The whole plant is harvested during its flowering.

Step 3

On the farm, thyme is used for fermenting cucumbers, as a seasoning for meat dishes. Thyme contains a lot of tannins, bitterness and essential oil, which contains thymol, a phenol derivative.

Step 4

In the form of tea it is used for diseases of the intestines, lungs, urinary tract (bactericidal effect of thymol), for indigestion, fermentation in the intestines, flatulence, colic, stomach atony, for coughs, bronchial asthma, whooping cough, pulmonary actinomycosis, worms, as a blood-purifying and diuretic, to strengthen the muscles and nervous tissue of the stomach, pain reliever for sciatica, insomnia and neurosis.

Step 5

For one cup of boiling water, take one teaspoon of flowers and leaves of thyme and leave for ten minutes. Drink 1-2 cups a day in sips. For gastritis or colitis, insist one tablespoon of a mixture of thyme herb and strawberry leaves in two cups of boiling water, filter and drink two tablespoons every 2-3 hours.

Step 6

A decoction of thyme flowers (1 tablespoon per one cup of boiling water) is used for lotions and irrigation for eye inflammation. Powdered thyme leaves and flowers give a sniff when unconscious. Also for baths for children who suffer from rickets and scrofula, in case of metabolic disorders, a handful of flowers and leaves of thyme insist twenty minutes on five liters of boiling water and add to a full bath. Such baths are taken twice a week.

Step 7

In addition to the beneficial and healing properties of thyme, there are also strict contraindications to its use. For example, thyme and tinctures based on it are contraindicated in people with atherosclerosis, atrial fibrillation and cardiosclerosis. It is also undesirable to use thyme for liver and kidney diseases due to the high content of thymol. You need to be very careful about treating thyme if there are problems with the thyroid gland, and it is also not recommended to take thyme in the presence of stomach diseases with high acidity.
