Prevention of head lice

Lice, scientifically pediculosis, is a very, very ancient phenomenon, but it has not lost its relevance in modern times. Children's schools and preschool institutions experience epidemics almost every year. Of course, medical professionals regularly check up to find parasites in the heads of children. But do not rely solely on the vigilance of medicine. The households themselves must necessarily at least once a month, or better, a week, to examine each other to exclude the prosperity of head lice in the family. Especially if there are children in the house who attend school and kindergarten, or older family members whose work is related to travel, business trips, rotational work, etc.

In addition, you must follow the rules of personal hygiene - use only your comb and teach children to do this. Do not wear other people's hats. Be sure to dry your hair thoroughly after swimming or swimming in public waters. Conduct regular head examinations of all family members.

Regular check-ups can help you identify the existence of parasites at an early stage, which will prevent the spread of the infection in the family and communities where the household works or studies. A single case of head lice is much easier to cure than to eliminate a massive infection, when the number of parasites becomes alarmingly large. Moreover, the fertility of lice is at a high level.

How lice breed

The life cycle of head lice is approximately 40 days. During this time, the female can lay more than 150 eggs - nits, gluing them to the hair closer to the scalp. It is in this place that the most optimal temperature for ripening eggs is noted. Nits have an oblong shape, a bit like a drop, yellowish in color. It is difficult to confuse them with dandruff, because they are not shaken off the hair. And you can remove the nits only with your fingers or a comb, dragging it along the entire length of the hair.

The duration of the maturation of nits takes from six to fifteen days, depending on external temperatures. The warmer and more humid the atmosphere around the eggs, the faster the adult parasites will grow from the nits. The most optimal temperature is 25-30 degrees Celsius.

How to detect head lice

Pediculosis at an early stage can only be detected by the presence of nits on the head or a lone louse that has accidentally run through the hair. Don't think that you can see adults running around by simply pulling strands of hair apart. This can only happen in very advanced cases of head lice. But even if, upon a superficial examination, you found 2-3 nits, it means that a person has head lice.

It is necessary to examine the head for the detection of nits and lice as follows: put the person in a well-lit place, preferably by a window or a table lamp. Comb his hair and start at the temple, moving along the front of his head to the opposite temple. Pick up a thin section of hair with your fingers and examine it for light. Usually nits are attached close to the scalp. It is not easy to notice them.

After examining the front of the hair, move to the back of the head. Follow the same principle. The most favorite place for lice to lay eggs is behind the ears, temples and the middle of the back of the hair near the neck. Inspect here more carefully and slowly.
