Probiotics are microorganisms (bacteria, yeast) that are beneficial to human health. Most of them belong to two types - lactobacilli and bifidobacteria.
What are probiotics?
Probiotics increase the effectiveness of the human immune system, produce substances that prevent infectious diseases. They slow down the growth of pathogenic microflora, strengthen the mucous layer in the intestine, which is a barrier against infections. Probiotics destroy toxins secreted by pathogenic bacteria, produce B vitamins necessary for metabolism. According to reviews, they prevent anemia that develops with a lack of vitamins B6 and B12, and help maintain the health of the nervous system and skin.
The assortment of preparations containing probiotics is quite wide; you can find products of different price categories on sale. For the production of such drugs, basically, five types and two strains of bifidobacteria, eight types and five strains of lactobacilli, enterococci, streptococci and streptomycetes are used. All of them are safe and beneficial for the human body.
Currently, Escherichia coli (colibacterin, bifokol) is no longer used in the production of probiotics.
Which probiotic to choose
To choose the right probiotic, you need to consider the following. The microorganisms they contain must be safe for humans, non-pathogenic and alive. The product must be composed of acid-fast strains or have an acid-fast capsule. Studies have shown that acid-fast strains that do not have a protective capsule survive only 20-40%. When probiotics are used in capsules, the survival rate of the strains is 99% (Bifiform, Linex). The bacteria must have a high capacity for adhesion (fixation) to the intestinal walls and for colonization.
When making a choice between lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, you should know that bifidoflora strengthens somewhat, and lactobacilli have a slight laxative effect. Lactobacilli can neutralize toxins in case of diarrhea caused by infection, infection, they relieve inflammation in enteritis and colitis, normalize stool after taking antibiotics. Bifidobacteria increase immunity, they will be useful for children of the first year of life. Ideally, a probiotic should contain both bifidobacteria and lactobacilli.
Saccharomycetes are effective for any type of diarrhea.
To cure dysbiosis, you need to choose drugs in which the number of microbial bodies is below 10 * 7 in one milliliter or gram. A child under 2-3 years old can be given powdery and liquid preparations, since the children's stomach has a neutral environment. In case of dysbiosis of any degree, it is better to choose probiotics containing bifidobacteria ("Bifiform", "Bifidumbacterin Forte", "Probifor"). Monocomponent drugs ("Lactobacterin", "Bifidumbacterin", "Acipol") are used to prevent intestinal infections and mild dysbiosis. Lactic probiotics ("Acylact", "Gastrofarm", "Lactobacterin") are suitable for the prevention and treatment of diseases of the stomach and duodenum.
