Birch tar is a dark oily liquid with a specific odor. It is obtained by heating birch bark in airless containers. Tar is widely used in medicine both in pure form and in the composition of ointments, soaps, etc., mainly for the treatment of skin diseases.

For scabies, lubricate the affected skin with clean tar for several hours. Then rinse the skin with warm bran water. The mechanism of action of this method is that tar has a detrimental effect on the itch mite, and the bran reduces itching.
To treat scaly lichen, mix 1 tbsp. tar with 3 tbsp. fish oil until smooth. Moisten a gauze pad with the mixture and apply to the skin. Put a piece of plastic on top and fix the compress with a bandage. Remove the bandage after 2 hours. Repeat the procedures until complete recovery.
Mix 5% tar soap to treat psoriasis.
For the treatment of non-healing wounds, trophic ulcers, abscesses, prepare Vishnevsky ointment: mix 3 parts of birch tar, 3 parts of xeroform (it is also sold in a pharmacy, like tar) and 94 parts of castor oil. Apply the ointment to the skin under the bandage 1 to 2 times a day. Store the bottle of ointment in a cool place. Its shelf life is 3 years.
For fungal infections of the feet, apply tar on the skin for 1.5-2 hours once a week. Continue the procedure until you recover. For better penetration of tar into the skin, before applying it, steam your feet in a hot soapy-soda bath and rub your feet with a pumice stone.
