"Vikair" is intended for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The drug has a complex therapeutic effect: it lowers the acidity of gastric juice, kills pathogenic bacteria, has an astringent, antispasmodic effect.
How to take Vikair
"Vikair" is produced in the form of tablets. The composition of the preparation includes: bismuth nitart, sodium bicarbonate, magnesium carbonate, buckthorn bark, calamus root. Sodium bicarbonate is an antacid that is rapidly absorbed, but its therapeutic effect is short-lived. Magnesium carbonate also reduces gastric acidity, but has a longer lasting effect.
Magnesium ions increase the osmotic pressure in the intestine, increase the volume of its contents, and promote the release of feces. Bismuth salts create a protective film on the inner surface of the gastrointestinal tract, causing the death of pathogenic bacteria. Calamus rhizomes help to reduce spasms, reduce pain symptoms. Buckthorn bark improves intestinal motility.
"Vikair" is used for the treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers, as well as for the treatment of duodenitis, hyperacid gastritis (with high acidity) with a tendency to constipation. The drug should be taken 1-1.5 hours after meals, 1-2 tabs. 3 times a day. The tablets are washed down with ¼ glass of warm water. You can pre-grind and dissolve them in the specified amount of liquid.
The duration of taking "Vikair" depends on the severity of the disease and can last up to 2 months. If necessary, the course of treatment can be repeated. "Vikair" reduces the absorption of tetracyclines. When taken simultaneously with other drugs, which include bismuth, the concentration of this substance increases in the blood.
"Vikair": side effects, contraindications
"Vikair" has the following side effects: diarrhea, nausea, itching on the skin. During the period of taking the drug, the feces turn black. With prolonged use in large doses, bismuth can accumulate in the central nervous system and cause the development of encephalopathy. In case of an overdose, symptoms of renal failure appear. As a treatment, gastric lavage is performed, activated charcoal is prescribed, and hemodialysis is performed.
The drug is contraindicated in hypoacid gastritis with low acidity, chronic appendicitis, chronic renal failure, during pregnancy and lactation, in childhood, hypersensitivity to components. The drug is not prescribed to patients with peptic ulcer disease, accompanied by cholecystitis, enterocolitis, and patients with a tendency to bleeding.
"Vikair" is dispensed without a doctor's prescription. The medicine is stored in a dry, dark place out of the reach of children. The shelf life of the product is 5 years. An analogue of the drug is "Vikalin".
