According to Leonardo da Vinci, water is "the driver of nature and life." Antoine de Saint-Exupery called water the greatest wealth in the world. According to scientists, life on our planet originated in water.

Now on the whole earth there are few areas with clean sources of fresh water. And not fresh - dirty. According to some reports, one fifth of the oceans are covered with oil slick. Rivers, lakes, seas, oceans serve as a place for dumping waste for humans: industrial, agricultural, municipal, energy. This water is not only forbidden to drink, but swimming (in many large and small cities) is prohibited in it.

Every second inhabitant of the planet (as of 1990) drinks polluted water. Water is polluted due to the accumulation of many organic and inorganic substances, microorganisms, radionuclides in it. Even after passing through the purification systems (sedimentation, filtration, chlorine treatment), water that is unsafe for health enters the water supply network. What else can a person do to make water drinkable at home?

Never drink "raw" tap water. Be sure to boil it. When boiling, many pathogens die, water hardness decreases.

Chlorine can be removed by settling the water for 24 hours after boiling in a container with an open lid.

For disinfection, several crystals of potassium permanganate or a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide are added to the water.

Do not store drinking water in galvanized buckets, plastic bottles, or plastic containers. It is best to use glass, ceramics, enameled dishes for these purposes. If, after all, the dishes are made of polymers, they should have a “food grade” marker on them.

To obtain ecologically clean water, soak tap water for 24 hours, then boil it. Place the water poured into containers in the freezer, and then defrost it. In winter, a closed vessel can be placed on the balcony.

If the water is heavily contaminated, a tablet of ascorbic acid (0.5 mg per 5 liters) is added to it. Also, any fruit juice or red wine can be used for these purposes. Many toxic substances will be neutralized.
