Ozone is a highly reactive form of oxygen consisting of 3 atoms. The name of this compound comes from the Greek "ozo", which translates as "smell". The smell of ozone is familiar to everyone - it smells like the air after a thunderstorm. Ozone is the strongest oxidizing agent, due to this very property it is used as an antibacterial, antiviral agent. It reacts with lipid and protein molecules that make up the cell walls of viruses and bacteria, causing the death of foreign microorganisms.

In high concentrations, ozone is toxic, it affects the upper respiratory tract, causes paroxysmal cough, dizziness, and pain in the heart.

Ozone therapy is actively used in various fields of medicine: gastroenterology, gynecology, dermatology, dentistry, cosmetology, etc. In cardiology, this method is used to treat cardiovascular diseases: angina pectoris, ischemia, arrhythmias, heart failure, atherosclerosis, hypertension. In endocrinology - for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, polyneuropathy, in neurology - for migraine, VSD, discirculatory encephalopathy, osteochondrosis, in gynecology - for diseases of the genital organs, mastopathy, climacteric disorders. In cosmetology, ozone therapy is used to treat acne, cellulite, stretch marks, scars, varicose veins, obesity, to eliminate signs of aging, to correct facial contours.

Ozone therapy procedures are carried out in several ways. Subcutaneous or intravenous injections of physiological solutions containing ozone are performed, enemas with preparations containing ozone are prescribed, wraps with ozonized oil are used. Autohemotherapy with ozone is performed. Blood is taken from the patient, enriched with ozone and injected into a vein. Also, subcutaneous injections are made with thin needles with an ozone-containing mixture. Ozone contributes to a significant increase in blood circulation and lymph flow. As a result, excess fluid is removed from the subcutaneous fat layer. Pigment spots, vascular "stars" disappear, wrinkles are smoothed out.

The effect of ozone therapy is noticeable after 3-4 sessions.

Ozone therapy is contraindicated in case of ozone intolerance, if an allergic reaction occurs during the procedures, they must be stopped. Do not prescribe it for blood clotting disorders, after a hemorrhagic stroke. Absolute contraindications are also: convulsive syndrome, acute pancreatitis, hyperthyroidism, bleeding of various origins, epilepsy, head trauma. Relative contraindications include: poisoning, hypoglycemia (low blood glucose), recent myocardial infarction (procedures can be performed only 6-7 months after the attack). Pregnancy is not a contraindication to the use of ozone therapy. Moreover, such procedures will be useful to improve the condition of the skin, to prevent the development of gestosis, placental insufficiency, miscarriage, fetal hypertrophy.
