Dostinex is a drug that affects the muscles of the uterus. The active substance of Dostinex is cabergoline. The drug reduces the production of prolactin, a hormone necessary for the reproductive system.

Instructions for the use of "Dostinex"

"Dostinex" is prescribed to stop lactation (after childbirth, abortion, stillbirth), with hyperprolactinemia, which in women is manifested by menstrual irregularities and infertility. The drug affects the restoration of ovulation in women. In men, it is used to treat hyperprolactinemia, manifested by suppression of sexual desire, impotence, to treat pituitary adenoma, with Turkish empty saddle syndrome.

Dostinex tablets for hyperprolactinemia are taken once a week (on the same day) in the amount of 0.25-0.5 mg. After receiving the results of the examination and taking into account the tolerance of the drug, the dose is monthly increased by 0.5 milligrams. To stop lactation, the drug is taken once, one milligram in the first day after childbirth or abortion. To suppress lactation, tablets can be taken according to a milder scheme: 0.25 mg of the drug every twelve hours for two days.

It is necessary to avoid pregnancy within one month after stopping Dostinex.

Contraindications, side effects of "Dostinex"

"Dostinex" is contraindicated in case of revealed hypersensitivity to the drug, with suspicion of the development of postpartum psychosis, with late gestosis. Prescribing a drug during pregnancy is possible only if the benefits of the treatment to the mother are higher than the possible risk to the fetus. "Dostinex" is usually well tolerated, however, with suppression of lactation, cases of insomnia, abdominal pain, nausea, dizziness, hypotension (lowering pressure) have been identified. These symptoms are mild and pass rather quickly. During the treatment of hyperprolactinemia, nausea, depression, dizziness, headache, soreness of the mammary glands, gastritis, weakness, abdominal pain, hot flashes, hypotension may develop. These symptoms also go away quickly.

With hyperprolactinemia, the drug is not recommended for women who do not want to stop breastfeeding.

Side effects most often appear during the first two weeks of taking the drug. They depend on the dose, therefore, with the development of pronounced symptoms, it is recommended to lower it, and then gradually increase it - in two weeks by 0.25 milligrams of the drug per week. According to reviews, after the complete cancellation of "Dostinex" side effects disappear in one or two days. The medicine is dispensed with a doctor's prescription. Dostinex should be stored at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees. The shelf life of the medicinal product is two years.
