Calendula ointment is used to treat infected wounds, burns, cuts and other minor skin injuries. It is used for anal fissures, thrombophlebitis, varicose veins of the lower extremities, trophic ulcers, bedsores. After application to the skin, the drug is slowly absorbed and has a local antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and reparative effect.

The drug is active against gram-positive bacteria (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Sarcina lutea), gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp), pathogenic fungi Candida monosa, Candida albicans, Neurosporacrassa. Calendula ointment can cause allergic skin reactions. The drug is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to its components, in children under six years of age.

How to use calendula ointment

Apply the product to a dry, clean skin surface. The amount of ointment will depend on the size of the lesion. Two to four grams of the product (a strip of ointment 2-4 cm long) will be enough to treat the skin surface with an area of ​​400-800 sq. Cm. (which corresponds to the area of ​​the sacrum, knee joint). In case of an ulcer or a wound with purulent discharge, it is recommended to first carry out a mechanical cleaning of necrotic tissue.

For burns, wounds, cuts and other injuries to the skin, spread the ointment evenly over the surface of the affected area. Rub lightly until you feel warm, then cover the affected area with a gauze pad and secure with a sterile bandage. Then wash your hands. Change dressings 2-3 times a day. To treat anal fissures, lubricate cotton swabs with ointment and insert them into the rectum after a bowel movement or a cleansing enema. Repeat the procedure 1-2 times a day.

For the treatment of thrombophlebitis and varicose veins, apply calendula ointment to the affected area with a thick layer (2-3 mm) in the projection of the veins, without rubbing. Cover with parchment paper, secure with a bandage. Perform the procedure 2-3 times a day, as well as at night. The course of application of the remedy is 2-3 months. For varicose and trophic ulcers, apply an ointment in the form of applications. Wash the skin around with warm water and soap, then treat it with zinc ointment. Apply a thick layer of calendula ointment to the wound, cover the affected area with parchment paper or gauze under the bandage. Dress 1-3 times a day. The course of therapy is 2-3 weeks.
