Kolganov root: chemical composition and properties

This plant belongs to the ginger family, and the Chinese island of Hainan is considered its homeland. It was from there that he got to Russia, and then to Europe, thanks to which the Euromeans called him "the Russian root" for a long time.

In appearance, the root resembles ginger, while the ground part is similar to reeds. The length of the shoots reaches one and a half meters, and the width of the leaves is thirty centimeters. Initially, this plant was used as a seasoning, which was added to meads, jelly, sbitni, gingerbread and many other dishes.

For medical purposes, a plant that has reached the age of five is used. Its roots are dug up, washed well, peeled and cut into thin longitudinal strips, dried in the sun. The finished raw material is very wrinkled, dark brown with a red tint and bright orange pulp.

The root contains gum, thiamine, starch, camphorin, flavonoids, an essential oil rich in eugenol and cineol. The root is in no way inferior to aspirin and penicillin in its anti-inflammatory properties.

Kolgan is effective in the treatment of many liver diseases, especially cholecystitis and inflammation of the biliary tract. In addition, it is successfully used for gastric and duodenal ulcers. Kolgan root ointments help in the treatment of frostbite, cracks and eczema. Purulent wounds that do not heal for a long time are healed with lotions with its decoction. Kolganov root is also used as an adjuvant in the treatment of tuberculosis.

It should be borne in mind that the colgan's double is quite often used, i.e. a plant very similar to it in appearance, called "wild colgan" or "colgan-grass". Most people, unaware that these plants have nothing in common, try unsuccessfully to use "fake".
